The travelling seminar on the issues of the use of modern automated compensation systems for capacitive ground short circuit currents in the moderate voltage networks took place in “MRSK of Centre Region”, JSC. The two-day event, arranged by the Technical Development Department of the electrical network company, took place in Tver training production centre as part of the implemented complex policy of “MRSK of Centre Region”, JSC on the further professional training for the experts of technical block.

During the seminar the participants reviewed the methods to organize neutral modes in the moderate voltage networks, the issues of the use of high- and low-valued resistors, including those in the networks with PEX insulation cables, the methods of phase insulation measurement, the diagnostics of zero-phase-sequence contours and the detection of damaged connections. The participants of the events were introduced to the design features of resistors, plunger arc suppression coils and transductor reactors, achievements in the production of modern control systems for capacitive ground short circuit currents and for detection of damaged connections. The engineers of diagnostic departments and substation departments of “MRSK of Centre Region”, JSC shared their experience in the operation of arc suppression coils and their control systems, confirmed the effectiveness of the complex approach at the arrangement of the compensation of capacitive ground short circuit currents.

The representatives of “Bolid” LLC, “NPP Bresler” LLC from Chuvashia and “RETZ “Energia” JSC from Moscow presented their technical solutions. The experts of “MRSK of Centre Region”, JSC were especially interested in the arc-suppression coil control terminal “Bresler-0107.065” with automated setting function (on resonant mode and on set compensation mode), the function of contour volume and detuning sign detection, capacitive current detection of the section and fault detection of the reactor. The terminal features the event log, which stores the time of mode start, checks and faults, which considerably simplifies the personnel’s work. No less interesting was the discussion of comparative tests of vacuum switches by various manufacturers, of the requirements to their technical specification and design features, their effect at overvoltage-layer commutation in an electrical power network and PEX insulation cables.

Anatoly Hostantsev, the Chief of the Research and Development Engineering and Design Work Division of the Technical Development Department of “MRSK of Centre Region”, JSC, underlined, that “While planning the seminar we set the objective to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various arc suppression coils, the peculiarities of their operation in various neutral mode of 6-10 kV, the principles of signal forming of control system in arc suppression coils, the methods to decrease overvoltage at single-phase short circuits, the variants and areas of the use of high- and low-valued resistors, as detailed as possible. We did our best; the meeting was interesting and productive”.
